[edit] Overview

Still in the midst of a Class 5 shitstorm, Brock Samson, with the Ventures reluctantly in tow, must ride the treacherous bloody waters until they crash upon the shore of the Venture Compound. Then some other crazy stuff happens that can't be appropriately be put into a naval metaphor, but I'm pretty sure Molotov Cocktease is the pirate.

So with butterflies to the left of him, OSI to the right, here he is stuck in the middle... with you!

[edit] Synopsis

The episode opens with Mr. Carholder & Mr. Doe informing a bare-chested, exercising Gen. Treister that three of OSI's top assassins are dead at the hands of Brock Samson. Gen. Treister yells at his pacemaker and decides that he has to solve the Brock Samson situation face to face.

After the opening credits, Brock and Dr. Venture are being roughed up by the LAPD -- Brock finds this funny but Dr. Venture is not enjoying it. Meanwhile, Hank and Dean are being interviewed by a child psychologist who thinks they have been kidnapped and psychologically manipulated by Brock, noting "Stockholm Syndrome" on his notepad and exhibiting incredulity about any "robot friend." The shrink also notes that Hank has an oral fixation when Hank, trying to look cool, asks for a cigarette but is forced to pretend to smoke a twizzler.

H.E.L.P.eR is being interrogated by the Monarch and his henchmen. They accidentally knock his head off, replace it and threaten to do it again, on purpose.

During Brock and Doc's interrogation, two SWAT members come in and tell the detectives to cut Brock and Doc loose, explaining, "No bodies, no case." When the detectives object they are informed that the hotel room was clean and spotless with a "faint lemony fresh scent." As one of the SWAT officers remarks that he still smell this aroma, his head is melted off. In comes "The Cleaner" who melts all of the cops' heads and faces with spray bottles. He then frees Brock and Doc.

Meanwhile, the Monarch and his two main henches are hooking H.E.L.P.eR up to car battery. When 24 asks which terminal to hook up first, the Monarch remarks that the robot is not a Mitsubishi Galant. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch barges in and yells about how they are treating H.E.L.P.eR badly and says that they have to take him back to his family and hugs him. H.E.L.P.eR quickly gives up the Ventures' location on a slip of paper. It was all a good cop/bad cop trick, and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch gives the Monarch the coordinates.

In the LA River, Brock and the Ventures are escaping with the Cleaner. Brock grabs the Cleaner, suspicious of a set-up because Hank never got a chance to call him. Molotov Cocktease shows up and says that she did. Mol is ridiculously dressed -- like Ludmilla Drago from Rocky 4 -- and this is apparently how she dresses off-duty. Brock says that with that outfit that he needs to re-think their relationship; Hank does not recognize her and calls her a "hood-rat." The Monarch's cocoon looms into the scene, with the Monarch calling on the wrist communicator and demanding Venture show himself. Venture and family hide under a bridge while Molotov and the Cleaner speed away. Gen. Treister calls Brock on his wrist communicator and wants him to come in. Brock says that they are far past that and Gen. Treister tells Brock not to go all "First Blood."

Brock speaks into both his own and Doc's communicators and tells both the Monarch and Treister to meet him at the Venture Compound at dawn. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch mentions it is a trap and the Monarch reveals that he has planted a bomb on H.E.L.P.eR. At dawn the flying cocoon arrives at the compound with the Venture crew stowed away. Brock locks the Ventures in the panic room and goes to the console. Brock plays the Monarch and Treister against each other and gets them to fight. 21 and 24 are hiding in the Monarchmobile, listening to the battle outside on the radio and waiting for it to nearly end, so that they can show up at the end and survive. H.E.L.P.eR steals the Monarchmobile and 24 cannot get his seatbelt off, so that while 21 jumps out in time, 24 is instead hijacked along with the vehicle, leaving 21 yelling after him "Why did you buckle up?! Why??"

In the panic room, Sgt. Hatred starts pounding on the door and Hank lets him in. Dean appears to have a heart attack while Doc & Hatred get into an argument about who has seen or done more brutal things. Hank wants to go out and fight. When Doc says they need an army, Hanks asks for his "Christmas presents" early. Outside the battle is taking heavy tolls on both sides. Suddenly, out marches Sgt. Hatred with all of the Hank/Dean clone slugs. Brock sees this and rushes out to turn himself in.

The Monarch shows up in his Death's Head Panoply, a suit in which he has no movement. When the suit is activated it rockets into the air and starts shooting lasers and bladed weapons. Brock dives on the General to save him. As the Monarch rockets up and spins around and around his lasers/blades kill all of the clone slugs. Dean is weirded-out, saying that he feels like it is him who is dying. Hank wants to go out and fight, to which Doc says, "Well, son. You only live once." The Monarch gets motion-sick and crashes.

Treister reveals to Brock that he thought Brock was in trouble and now thinks he is losing his mind. Treister mentions that Brock never reported on Venture's illegal cloning operation and wants to reassign him, for his own good. Brock says he'd rather quit. Venture asks if Brock is going to cleanup the mess, Brock repeats that he quit. Brock then tells the Monarch, "Hey Monarch, I'm takin' your fuckin' car." The Monarchmobile blows up with H.E.L.P.eR and 24 in it. 21 is smacked with 24's flaming severed head.

After the credits, Molotov Cocktease is seen burning dossiers on the three assassins and announces that the Blackhearts are now the top assassins in the world. It is then revealed that Col. Hunter Gathers is a member of the Blackhearts and toasts Brock Samson for eliminating all their competition.

[edit] Fun Facts

  • The Monarch's Death Panoply resembles the Death Blossom sequence from the movie The Last Starfighter.
  • The Cleaner's appearance of a tight white t-shirt, bald head, and glinting smile are nearly identical to the cleaning product icon Mr. Clean.
  • When the psychiatrist was interviewing the brothers he flashes his notebook, where he listed the boys as being/having: Paranoid Delusions, Arrested Development, Cry Baby, Oral Fixation, and Stockholm Syndrome.
